Request for ICLEI Membership Withdrawal

Dear _________:

I have recently become aware that Houston is a member of ICLEI, a Non-Governmental Organization which must be approved by and must subscribe to, policies of the United Nations. I am also aware that ICLEI has been created for the purpose of implementing UN Agenda 21, otherwise known as “Smart Growth” in our local area. I strenuously object to our local government subscribing to, and promoting these policies.

The United Nations Agenda 21 is a comprehensive plan of extreme environmentalism, social engineering, and global political control that was initiated at the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (“UNCED”) held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 1992. This global treaty was signed by George H. Bush. The treaty was never ratified by two-thirds of the Senate as is required by the U.S. Constitution.

Instead, in 1996 President Clinton signed an Executive Order creating the President’s Council for Sustainable Development which assisted in implementing these policies throughout our nation by giving millions of dollars to the American Planning Association to come up with a plan on how to implement it.

The policies of ICLEI are guaranteed to strip the property rights of American citizens, and are also a direct violation of the 5th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution: the right to property.

Today UN Agenda 21, under the name of “Smart Growth” is being implemented in every State in the nation through our local governments and planning boards.

This plan of radical so-called “sustainable development” views the American way of life of private property ownership, single-family homes, private car ownership and individual travel choices, and privately owned farms all as destructive to the environment.

As an American and local citizen, I request that you immediately withdraw membership from ICLEI and immediately cease supporting, implementing or advocating on behalf of any of its programs.

Very truly yours,

___________
